The Nigerian Senate has deferred its resumption from recess for the second time, citing ongoing renovations and committee engagements. Initially scheduled to reconvene on April 16, 2024, the upper chamber of the National Assembly extended its recess to April 23. However, the Clerk of the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, announced another postponement, setting the new resumption date for April 30, 2024

Akubueze explained that the delay is necessary to facilitate the commencement of plenary sessions in the renovated chamber. Additionally, ongoing committee hearings, including the recent grilling of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) officials over the Ways and Means and Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, have contributed to the decision to prolong the recess.
