Minister of Environment seeks sanitary inspectors in tackling open defecation

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal has advocated for the return of Sanitary Inspections of households and industries like it was in the 60s  to kick out open Defecation and pollution among other things in Nigeria.

He stated this at a media parley with the Ministry’s Press Corp (Media) on a familiarization discussion, in Abuja on Thursday.

Balarabe noted that Sanitary Inspectors were working directly under the ministry of environment and do checkup on households and industries, the issue of open defecation was not as worst as it is today.

The Environment boss who worried on this added that when the sanitary inspection was moved to the ministry of water resources, things were not as it was in the 60s

Speaking further on this, he urged the public to please imbibe on toiletries and stop open defecations because Nigeria by now should have be focusing on another thing if the public adhered to the campaign against this.

Speaking on pollution, he said, “environmental pollution is another area that my ministry is doing everything possible to tackle, including the open defecations problems which the act he said, cuts across States”.

While speaking on Ogoni, in Rivers state, he however, promised to engage the people and the Companies that operated in that area to find a lasting solution to the Ogoni pollution menace.

The Minister who also spoke on falling of trees said, if any one wants to cut down any trees, the person should ensure he plant another three to four trees in the same spot where he/she cuts which is what is called deforestation.
