In the wake of recent developments in Rivers State, there is a growing call for decisive and equitable action from the federal government. As the nation addresses the ongoing state of emergency declared, we urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that all actions taken are impartial and transparent.
The group in a statement by its National convention, Amb. Omole Olusegun, in Abuja on Wednesday, said;
Given the complexities of the situation, the president has the authority to enact measures that could restore peace and stability. However, it is crucial that these measures reflect fairness and justice across the board. This includes considering the role of all key figures involved and ensuring accountability is maintained at every level of government.
Former Governor Nyesom Wike, identified by all including Mr President as a significant figure in the crisis, should be evaluated with the same scrutiny as others who have already faced suspension for the periodof six months, such as Governor Fubara and members of the State Assembly. A balanced approach would demonstrate the Bola Ahmed administration’s commitment to justice and neutrality.
It is essential that President Tinubu uses this opportunity to reinforce his dedication to unity and fairness within Nigeria. It’s already doubtful in the case of Rivers State. By considering the suspension of Nyesom Wike for the duration of the investigation from his cabinet, the government can reaffirm its stance against partiality and uphold public trust.
While the circumstances are challenging, it is important for the administration to ensure actions are consistent and just preserve the integrity of the nation’s leadership.
