The Federal Government has cancelled the traditional military parade for the 2025 Democracy Day celebration, slated for June 12. Instead, Mr. President will deliver a nationwide broadcast at 7 a.m., addressing Nigerians on the state of the nation and the country’s democratic journey
The President will appear before a special joint session of the National Assembly at noon, focusing on Nigeria’s democratic development, national unity, and institutional reforms.
A public lecture, themed “Strengthening Democracy Through Lasting Reforms,” will also take place at 4 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Although, no official reason was given for the parade’s cancellation, a presidency source hinted that it might be connected to last year’s incident where President Tinubu slipped while attempting to climb a ceremonial vehicle during the June 12 parade at Eagle Square, Abuja. Despite this, officials have assured that the President remains in good health.
The President’s commitment to strengthening democratic governance in Nigeria remains unwavering. Nigerians are encouraged to participate in national discussions aimed at deepening democratic values and supporting institutional reforms.
