Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, representing Osun Central Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing several core reasons for his resigning
His departure stems from internal challenges within the party that have hampered effective governance and representation of his constituents’ needs.
The main reasons Senator Olubiyi gave for his decision to leave PDP are:
Unresolved Internal Crisis: The party has failed to resolve internal conflicts, causing divisions and mistrust among members.
Ongoing Litigation: Numerous court cases involving members have damaged the party’s reputation and distracted leadership from focusing on key objectives.
Deficient Leadership: Lack of strong and effective leadership has hindered the party from articulating and pursuing a unified vision.
Factionalism: The existence of competing factions and leadership struggles within the party has weakened unity and sustained ongoing disputes.
Senator Olubiyi expressed that these issues have made it difficult for him to fulfill his role of delivering democratic dividends such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities for his constituents and the nation.
His extensive record shows a deep commitment to infrastructural and social development in his district, including roads, education, healthcare, rural electrification, water projects, and youth empowerment initiatives, which he fears will be compromised by the ongoing party crisis.
Senator Olubiyi emphasized that his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, family, and friends and was not taken lightly. Although there were media rumours linking his resignation to an imminent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) through association with another politician, Senator Olubiyi denied these claims
He assured his constituents that whatever his next political move, it would be made openly and with their interests at heart, aiming to bring tangible development. Meanwhile, preparations continue for his ongoing constituency project, the third Ajagunla’s N100 million bursary award for Osun Central indigenous students scheduled for September 2025.
