The Organizing Committee of the forthcoming International World Youth Day for the Unemployed Youths of Nigeria has announced the creation of a new and controversial category titled the “Award of Dishonour.”
The award is scheduled to be presented on March 10, 2026, at 7:00 AM (WAT) at the entrance of the National Assembly of Nigeria in Abuja.
According to the organizers, the category was introduced to spotlight what they described as “avoidable moral failings in public duty.”
In a statement released to the press, the coordinator, comrade Danesi Momoh Prince indicated that Senator Olajide Ipinsagba of Ondo North has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the award.
The organizers cited what they described as several verified allegations, including concerns about staff remuneration, the alleged monetization of legislative oversight, professional fees owed to a legal practitioner, and growing dissatisfaction among constituents over what they characterize as poor representation and inadequate empowerment initiatives.
The statement further noted that the award is intended as a symbolic expression of youth-led civic engagement and accountability, emphasizing that the initiative reflects concerns voiced within sections of the public sphere.
The Unemployed Youths of Nigeria is a registered organization and has led several road protests and reforms in Nigeria including early voting for military personnel, the monthly briefing by the Minister of Information, open assets declaration by public officers amongst others
The organizers maintain that the main event will be held on March 21, 2026 and will feature various activities focused on youth advocacy, governance, and civic responsibility at International Conference Center, Abuja.
The organizers stated that the award ceremony for 10th March will serve as a pre-event activity for the International Youth Day and will be conducted as a standing event.
They further emphasized that the recipient must be present in person to accept the award, warning that representatives or proxies will not be permitted.
According to the committee, proceedings at the National Assembly premises will not conclude until the award has been personally received.
