A civil society organisation under the aegis of Osun Youth Initiative for Good Governance (OYIGG) has tackled Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his Accord Party over a reckless claim that “Tinubu Preferred Adeleke for Osun Governorship.”
In a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo and jointly signed by its Convener, Dr. Adeyemi Akande, and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Abdulakeem Atoyebi, the group described the comment as not only false but also reckless.
Akande explained that Senator Francis Fadahunsi (OFR) and his counterpart in Osun Central, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunnla, had pleaded on behalf of the embattled governor and waited until June 2025 before finally joining President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Our attention has been drawn to the lies being peddled by some Accord Party members about President Bola Tinubu’s support for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the next governorship poll,” the statement read. “We feel it is time to put an end to these lies and stop their further spread. The President, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), did not at any time endorse or approve Gov. Adeleke’s candidacy.”
Akande also reminded the public how the governor, his brother Deji Adeleke, and singer Davido visited President Tinubu in Lagos, boasting of securing 95 percent of voters.
“One will ask how the Adelekes sleep at night, when they boasted of such reach and popularity to Mr. President and are now seeking his endorsement,” the statement noted. “Let it be on record: President Tinubu did not at any time assure Adeleke of support. We urge members of the public to disregard these insinuations.”
