The Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial district- Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has congratulated the Edo State Governor- elect, His Excellency, Monday Okpebholo for coasting home him to a sweet victory on September 21, 2024 at the keenly contested Edo state gubernatorial elections describing him as a man of grace.
Senator Nwebonyi gave the commendation on Saturday, September 21, 2024 in Benin city, the Edo State capital shortly after the declaration of Mr Okpebholo of the APC as the winner of the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo state by the Returning Officer- Professor Faruq Kuta. The Returning announced that the APC candidate-Monday Okpebholo polled a total of 291,667 votes to defeat Asue Ighodalo of the PDP who garnered 247, 274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party who came a distant third with 22, 763 votes as well as 14 other contestants with dismal figures.
Senator Nwebonyi who is also the Vice Chairman of the ECOWAS Parliament’s Standing Committee on Education, Sciences and Culture commended the National and the Edo State leadership of the APC, the Senate President- Akpabio, the APC Campaign Council in Edo state, and all party faithfuls for their massive support for Mr Monday Okpebholo of the APC which translated into his overwhelming victory at the polls. He noted that APC Government under Okpebholo will transform Edo state.
The astute Parliamentarian-Sen. Nwebonyi who was in Edo state with the Senate President-His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio and other APC stalwarts to monitor the election lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting a free, fair and credible election adding that the victory of Okpebholo is a victory for democracy and the will of the electorates in Edo state.
There were delightful cheers from the APC family in Edo state shortly after the announcement of the results and the presentation of the Governor-elect to the Oba of Benin. The Senate President – His Excellency-Sen Godswill Akpabio, Senate Deputy Chief Whip-Sen Nwebonyi, Senator Adams Oshomole among others all hailed the electoral process describing it as a victory for the will of the people.
