Dr. Bukola Saraki embodies the essence of leadership, a quality that transcends mere profession or title. Dr. Saraki’s impact extends beyond regional or religious boundaries. He is seen by many as a national figure, a symbol of resilience and determination. His journey is a reminder that true leaders are driven by purpose and passion, leaving lasting legacies for future generations. Despite challenges and distractions, Dr. Saraki’s path is clear. His destiny is a testament to the power of conviction and the importance of recognizing and embracing one’s calling. As a leader, he continues to inspire and motivate, proving that with dedication and hard work, greatness can be achieved. These are verifiable facts!
Many young people today could relate to Dr. Saraki for his leadership in the 8th Senate, but only a few are aware of his giant strides as Governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011.
1. Kwara State became the FIRST state to complete Nigeria Independent Power Project.
2. Ganmo Power Station in Ilorin was re-energized, connecting almost 4000 rural communities across the state to the National grid.
3. Through Saraki’s numerous electrification projects, Kwara State achieved 18–22 hours a day electricity for 90% of households. This was at a time when the National average of 18-22 hours daily electricity was at 30%.
4. When the government of Zimbabwe displaced white farmers, Dr. Saraki brought them to farm in Kwara State, which led to the establishment of Shonga Farms programme. The Shonga farm program was replicated by other Governors across the country.
5. Saraki’s impressive performance as Governor influenced his colleague Governors to unanimously appoint him as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum. He didn’t become Chairman based on political convenience.
6. As Chairman of NGF, Saraki introduced a whole lot of reforms among his colleagues and developed a better program for polio eradication across the country. It was during his Chairmanship that Nigerians started taking the Forum seriously.
7. Though Kwara state became a place of choice destination during his time as Governor, the cost of living was one of the lowest in the country. Inflation rate was lower than national average, while food items were relatively affordable. Kwara was a working state.
This is just few that could be mentioned for now.
Conclusion, It is always mind-bothering reading some mischievous commentators on social media claiming Sen. Abubakar Bukola Saraki achieved nothing as Kwara state Governor between 2003 and 2011. One would have decided to ignore or underplay such comments but there is need to engage their mischief because of the undiscerning readers. These are the pure facts you can confirm in any place.
