A civil society group, Osun Youths Initiative for Good Governance (OYIGG), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for endorsing senators’ re-election bids ahead of 2027.
In a statement signed Friday by its convener, Dr. Adeyemi Akande, the group hailed the president’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians.
“We are delighted that Mr. President understands politics and recognizes the need for responsible, capable hands to collaborate with. This current Senate is the most capable assembly,” the statement read.
President Tinubu made the pledge Thursday during a meeting with Senate delegations at the State House, Abuja. He commended the Senate leadership and distinguished senators for their support and cooperation.
The president reaffirmed his earlier stance, stating that the senators deserve the “right of first refusal” to contest the 2027 senatorial seats in their respective districts.
The meeting, held Wednesday with Senate leadership and ranking members, focused on constructive dialogue on urgent national matters and reaffirmed commitment to the administration’s goals.
